Immobile Ready for Tense Derby della Capitale, “It’s as if the City Freezes”

Ciro Immobile feels the emotions of the Derby della Capitale ahead of Lazio’s decisive clash against Roma tomorrow.

The 32-year-old Italian striker has taken part in a number of derbies against the Giallorossi since his arrival in 2016. He has scored six goals in total in the derby, far below record holders Francesco Totti and Dino da Costa’s 11.

Speaking to Lazio’s official outlets (via LazioNews24) today, Immobile first discussed the importance of the fans in the Derby della Capitale.

I have to say that I expected a similar atmosphere in terms of choreography, cheering and colours.

The derby is always an exciting game, more so than any other in my career.

The Lazio striker touched on his various memories of the derby against Roma.

All the goals scored in the derby are always beautiful, then of course there are the special ones that brought victories.

So, for now, my favourites remain the two scored between the first leg and the return leg in the double semi-final of the Coppa Italia in 2017.

Finally, Immobile discussed how the Derby della Capitale is a special match that can be felt on the streets of Rome.

The anticipation is the thing that makes the derby a special match. They talk about it all week, it’s as if the city freezes, as if everyone only thinks about the derby. And that makes everything more exciting and interesting.

The 32-year-old Immobile has made 33 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2726 minutes. In that time, he’s scored 26 goals and provided four assists, being the standout star of Maurizio Sarri’s squad.
