President Claudio Lotito is no longer ready to renew Maurizio Sarri’s contract with Lazio, wanting to wait until the summer.
The Biancocelesti had been slowly progressing under the 63-year-old Italian coach this season, with things looking positive over the last couple of months, but the 3-0 derby defeat to rivals Roma has shaken confidence in the Italian capital.

As detailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), the original plan was for Sarri and Lotito to meet during this international break to discuss his contract renewal with the club. The coach’s current deal expires with Lazio in June 2023.
Now the Biancocelesti president has changed his mind. He wants to see how the season ends before committing himself and the club to Sarri’s long-term project. The Tuscan coach wants a real revolution in the transfer market in the summer but the liquidity index is a definite concern.

There’s a clause in Sarri’s contract that would allow him to leave for a foreign club at the end of this season, but for the time being the Italian coach doesn’t look likely to exercise this.
The contract renewal situation has dragged on for a large part of this season and it’s unlikely that a conclusion will be reached until the summer.
