The Numbers Behind Lazio’s Consistent Struggles in Big Games

Lazio’s derby collapse against Roma on Sunday was the most recent example of the team’s failure to perform in big games.

The Biancocelesti suffered a painful 3-0 loss at the Stadio Olimpico on the weekend, with Tammy Abraham’s first half brace crushing Maurizio Sarri’s side before they could even get a foot in the door. It was an embarrassing scene for the squad, who are now licking their wounds over the international break.

Looking at only the top seven Serie A teams, Lazio would be last with only eight points, picking up wins against Roma and Inter and two draws against Atalanta. Ahead of them are the Giallorossi with 10 points, followed by Atalanta with 11, Juventus and Inter with 14, Napoli with 15 and Milan with 21.

The Biancocelesti also have the worst defence out of the top seven, conceding 20 goals and scoring only 10. Sarri has eight games to try and end the season on a high note in Rome, which is much needed in order to restore confidence following the derby disappointment.
