Five Lazio Players Will Leave the Club on a Free Transfer in the Summer

Five players will Lazio at the end of this season when their contracts expire, kicking off the revolution in Rome.

The final eight games of this Serie A campaign will be the last for five players who have been with the Biancocelesti for a number of years, meaning that this will be a real end of an era in the Italian capital. Maurizio Sarri is ready to overhaul the squad in order to make them competitive in the fight for a top four finish.

Eight Games Remain as a New Era for Lazio Approaches

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Thomas Strakosha, Pepe Reina, Lucas Leiva, Patric and Luiz Felipe will all leave the club on a free transfer at the end of June.

The most likely to renew their deal is Strakosha, but he is currently being courted by Torino as well as various clubs in the Premier League.

Patric is destined to join Valencia, who wanted him in January, and Luiz Felipe seems set to join Real Betis, despite the denials from his entourage.

Luiz Felipe Will Not Renew Lazio Contract as Real Betis Move Approaches

Leiva, despite his desire to extend his contract with Lazio for another year, will not be renewed due to his €2.5 million net per season salary. He will either join a club in the MLS or return to Gremio.

Finally there’s Reina. The former Liverpool man’s contract has a clause that would extend his deal by one year should the Roman club qualify for the Europa League, something that looks unlikely at this stage of the season. It’s unclear whether he’ll find a new club or retire.
