Ciro Immobile is set to retire from the Italian national team following last night’s disastrous loss to North Macedonia.
The reigning European champions failed to take advantage of their control in yesterday’s World Cup play-off against North Macedonia and their inability to find the back of the net came back to haunt them in the dying minutes of the match, when Aleksandar Trajkovski scraped home a winner.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Immobile is set to retire from international duty following the defeat, allowing Gianluca Scamacca to become the new centre forward for the Azzurri.

Behind him would be Torino’s Andrea Belotti and fellow Sassuolo starlet Gianluca Raspadori. On the right side of the front three Nicolo Zaniolo will finally get a chance to impress, whilst Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni will be looking to fight for a starting spot on the left. Federico Chiesa will play on both sides and is irreplaceable.
