Milan have raised their contract offer to captain Alessio Romagnoli ahead of his meeting with Lazio.

The 27-year-old Italian defender’s contract expires with the Rossoneri at the end of this season and the Biancocelesti are incredibly keen to pick him up on a free transfer in the summer. A meeting between the Roman club and the centre back has been scheduled for next week.

The Rossoneri’s move makes it clear that they haven’t resigned themselves to losing Romagnoli in the summer just yet, even if the possibly of a free transfer to Lazio looks high.

Significant updates are expected following the meeting between the two parties next week, and in the meantime a number of other clubs are monitoring the situation. Juventus, Sevilla and Newcastle United are all hovering by closely.
