Lazio are one of six clubs that will take on Shakhtar Donetsk in a charity friendly soon.
UEFA have given the green light to the Ukrainian club to take to the pitch for a number of friendly matches in a bid to raise money to help both children and adults currently suffering as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As highlighted by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Shakhtar will take part in six charity friendly matches in the coming weeks, starting with Besiktas on 13th April, After this, they’ll face Fenerbahce on the 19th before facing Sevilla, Hajduk Split, Paris Saint-Germain and Lazio.
Sporting director Drijo Srna discussed the initiative to Ukrainian TV channel Ukraina 24 TV.
As our president Rinat Akhmetov said, ‘the time will come when we will rebuild Ukraine and invest all our skills and means so that Ukraine recovers and becomes a strong and prosperous country’. I fully agree with this and I am also sure that this will be the case.
Shakhtar is officially coached by former Sassuolo tactician Roberto De Zerbi, although his work has been suspended following the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has brought the entire country to a standstill. He safely returned to Italy last month after a brief delay.
