The Court of Rome has sentenced the eight carabinieri charged in the Stefano Cucchi trial.
A 31-year-old Cucchi died in pre-trial detention in Rome in October 2009 following a series of police and judicial failings, including serious physical abuse and a lack of proper care. He was a known Lazio fan and many of his supporters in the following years came from the Biancocelesti environment.

As detailed by Mediaset, eight more members of the Carabinieri were sentenced following the Cucchi trial, being charged with forgery, aiding and abetting, failure to report and slander.
Earlier this week, Carabinieri officers Alessio Di Bernardo and Raffaele D’Alessandro were both sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for manslaughter.
Positive Atmosphere Following Sarri’s Decisive Meeting With Lazio President Lotito
Judge Roberto Nespeca sentenced General Alessandro Casarsa to five years, Colonel Lorenzo Sabatino to one year and three months, Francesco Cavallo and Luciano Soligo to four years, Tiziano Testarmata to one year and nine months and Luca De Cianni to two years and six months.
Finally, Francesco Di Sano was given one year and three months and Massimiliano Colombo Labriola one year and nine months.
Ilaria Cucchi, the sister of Stefano who spent over a decade fighting for justice, was overjoyed with the result.
I am in shock, I never thought this day would come. Years and years of our lives have been destroyed, but today we are here. And the people who were the cause, those responsible, have been condemned.
The Carabinieri also commented on the ruling, stating that the incident was ‘far removed’ from their values.
The sentence reinforces the deep sorrow of the Carabinieri for the loss of a young life. To the family we renew, once again, all our closeness. The sentence, albeit of first instance, ascertains conduct far removed from the values and principles of the Force.
