Immobile No Longer Expected to Retire From Italian National Team

Ciro Immobile is no longer expected to retire from international duty despite Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

The 32-year-old Italian striker was one of the players most blamed for the Azzurri’s failure to book their spot at the tournament in Qatar, only scoring two goals across all of the qualifying matches. He failed to make a difference during his 77 minutes on the pitch in the 1-0 loss to North Macedonia, infuriating many fans.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Immobile noted to the media after yesterday’s win over Genoa that he “doesn’t give up” when discussing the national team, suggesting that he won’t decide to retire from the Azzurri.

It will therefore be coach Roberto Mancini’s decision whether or not to pick Immobile for Italy’s next round of games, with the Lazio star ready to accept the call.

Immobile has scored 15 goals in 55 caps for Italy, including two at Euro 2020 last summer.
