The hat-trick scored by Ciro Immobile in Lazio’s win over Genoa yesterday saw him overtake Dusan Vlahovic in the fight to be Capocannoniere.
The 32-year-old Italian is not having a good time of things following Italy’s World Cup play-off loss to North Macedonia last month. He has been one of the biggest scapegoats and it’s clear that the heavy and personal criticisms were starting to bother him.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Immobile would make history should he pick up the Capocannoniere title this season as no Italian has ever managed to win four Serie A top scorer titles before.
The Lazio star has scored 24 goals in the league this season, two more than Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, who has struggled to stay clinical following his €80 million move from Fiorentina to Juventus back in January.
Immobile has won three Capocannoniere titles in the past, starting in the 2013-14 season with 22 goals. In the 17-18 campaign the Italian netted 29 times and in the 19-20 season he scored 36 goals, both of which earnt him the top scorer title.
