Sarri Underlines Lazio Want ‘to Achieve the Maximum’ After Win Over Genoa

Maurizio Sarri was positive following Lazio’s impressive 4-1 win over Serie A strugglers Genoa.

The Biancocelesti stormed to a dominant victory on the back of star striker Ciro Immobile, who netted a hat-trick to secure the three points for Sarri and his squad. The Roman club are still firmly involved in the race for a European qualification spot and things are getting tense as the season draws to a close.

Speaking in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the win, Sarri first reacted to the victory over Genoa.

I’m happy above all for the attitude because this game could’ve been considered easy, but what Genoa had done lately made it very difficult.

We were good in the attack, we accepted that they played a dirty game and we were focused in possession.

He touched on the growth of Lazio this season and his thoughts about star striker Immobile.

As far as the team is concerned I think and hope that there are still margins for growth. Immobile has such impressive numbers that it’s not news when he doesn’t score, but when he does.

I’ve always said that it was a contrived controversy about Immobile, without meaning. The boy is responding as he has been doing for years, and I think there is no better response.

The Lazio coach was not interested in discussing how Immobile should be deployed for the Italian national team.

I don’t want to think anything about the national team. There are people who think about it and know what to do. I don’t really follow international football.

Maurizio Sarri spoke about the players who have expiring contracts and if they can stay.

We’ve started talking about them, and if they haven’t signed for other teams the club will make an offer.

The 63-year-old Italian coach elaborated on kind of growth he wants to see still from the squad.

Let’s go and see if we can find these margins, the first is consistency. In these months the team are making fewer mistakes than at the start, but there have been some blackouts.

If you think of the three games we’ve missed the mark and not played or the ones where we conceded a goal in extra time, they have taken away a lot of points.

We think about achieving the maximum, then we’ll see what the others do.

Finally, Sarri touched on the race for the European qualification spots, as well as his meeting with president Claudio Lotito.

I’d like the race to be more linear. Two teams had a game postponed at the beginning of January and it’s now mid-April and they haven’t been played.

If you can’t make up a game in four months the schedule is unworkable, or you didn’t want to make it up. The league table is still too haphazard.

The first conversation with the club was introductory.
