Roberto Mancini has decided to keep hold of Ciro Immobile for the Azzurri squad despite the World Cup play-off failure.
The 32-year-old Lazio star was one of the most criticised players following Italy’s 1-0 defeat to North Macedonia last month, which resulted in the national team missing out on their second consecutive World Cup. Immobile failed to make an impact in the qualifying campaign and many called for him to be dropped.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Mancini will soon have a meeting with Immobile, likely before the end of the season, in order to discuss his future with the Italian national team.
The Azzurri are preparing for a Super Cup match against Argentina and four Nations League matches, and it’s expected that Immobile will be part of the squad for these games. The Lazio star is upset following the post-Macedonia criticism but he’s not willing to give up just yet.
