Maurizio Sarri is desperate for Lazio to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the summer and Chelsea’s complicated situation could facilitate a deal.
The Italian coach has been a big fan of the 26-year-old English midfielder following his year in West London. It was under Sarri that Loftus-Cheek was finally able to show his best in a Blues shirt, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Sarri has repeatedly insisted that Lazio sign Loftus-Cheek in the summer, hoping to pick up the Englishman following last year’s initial interest.
The 26-year-old Chelsea midfielder’s contract expires in 2024 and their tough position after Roman Abramovich’s departure could help make a deal significantly more accessible for the Biancocelesti, who are preparing to sell Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the summer in order to fund a squad overhaul.
Loftus-Cheek is having a decent season under Thomas Tuchel in West London, making 17 Premier League appearances and providing two assists. He scored the opening goal in Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace, reminding everyone of his quality.
