Lazio have set their sights on Leander Dendoncker, believing the Wolves midfielder to be the perfect Lucas Leiva replacement.

The 27-year-old Belgian is having a good season in the Premier League under Bruno Lage, showing off his skills defensively and being a key link between the defence and the midfield. Dendoncker is a tall and physically imposing defensive midfielder with good tactical awareness.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio have identified Dendoncker as a worthy successor to Leiva, who is set to leave the club at the end of this season when his contract expires.

The Belgian’s contract expires with Wolves in 2023 and they want around €20-25m for the player, making him relatively accessible for Lazio, assuming the Roman club pull off the sale of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Lazio were also interested in Dendoncker back in 2020 and it seems as if they’re finally ready to get their man.
