Tensions Flared Between Sarri & Lotito Following Loss to Milan

The loss to Milan was a bitter pill to swallow for Lazio and sparks flew following the final whistle on Sunday.

The Biancocelesti suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to the Rossoneri on Sunday evening, leaving Maurizio Sarri infuriated on the sidelines as his team allowed Sandro Tonali to steal a late winner. The tension was palpable in Rome, both on the pitch and in the dressing room after the match.

As detailed by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lotito complained to Sarri after the final whistle, asking him why the team never clear the ball long, frustrated after the loss to Milan.

Lotito said to the Lazio coach: “I don’t understand why you never clear the ball. Have you seen Milan? It’s not an offence to kick it away.”

Sarri was clearly unimpressed with this criticism, and he instantly replied: “This is my football, if you don’t like it take Pioli back.”

Things were tense on the pitch as well, visible with the argument between Francesco Acerbi and Adam Marusic, who made a terrible error in the lead-up to Tonali’s winner.

Lazio will have to regroup before the end of the season, with only a handful of games still remaining in the team’s quest for European qualification.
