Intercity rivals Lazio and Roma are bitterly fighting for 5th in the table, desperate to grab the Europa League spot.
The Biancocelesti and the Giallorossi have been keeping each other within arms reach for the entirety of the second half of the season. Since the half way point, the former have picked up 28 points and the latter 27.
As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Lazio and Roma haven’t been separated by more than four points this season and they currently hold the same record in the league – 17 wins, eight draws and 10 defeats. Both sides also picked up a derby apiece, highlighting how balanced things have been.
Lazio boast the second most prolific attack in the league with 70 goals scored (four behind Inter), whilst Roma have struggled to be as clinical, netting only 55 times.
On the other hand, the Biancocelesti have performed much worse defensively than their intercity rivals; Maurizio Sarri’s side have conceded 53 goals, 13 more than Jose Mourinho’s Giallorossi.
With only three games remaining, the fight for 5th is now coming down to the wire. Lazio’s remaining games are against Sampdoria, Juventus and Hellas Verona; Roma will face Fiorentina, Venezia and Torino, as well as their Europa Conference League commitments.
