Inter may be seriously interested in Francesco Acerbi but there’s no guarantees he’ll leave Lazio this summer.
Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri are looking for a new backup centre back in the summer as Andrea Ranocchia’s contract will expire in June, and the Italian coach is interested in being reunited with Acerbi, who has had an incredibly difficult season in Rome.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), it still seems fairly likely that Acerbi will leave Lazio in the summer and Inter are genuinely keen to pick him up, but there’s a chance that he may stay in Rome after all, with one key factor in particular potentially proving problematic.
That factor is his contract; Acerbi is tied to Lazio until 2025 and he currently earns €2.5 million net per season. As such, he may be unwilling to drop his salary in order to be reunited with Inzaghi, and so could stay in Rome despite the fracture with the fans.
