Lazio Secure 2-0 Victory Over Sampdoria as Race With Roma Intensifies

Lazio kept up momentum in the race for 5th against Roma as they picked up a confident 2-0 win over Sampdoria last night.

The Biancocelesti knew a strong result was required ahead of the Giallorossi’s Serie A clash against Fiorentina tomorrow evening and they managed to deliver in front of their home fans, with Patric and Luis Alberto both finding the back of the net in the comfortable victory.

Lazio put in a fairly suffocating performance against Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday, finishing the match with 16 shots compared to the Ligurian side’s nine. They had 62% possession, completed 663 passes and finished with an expected goals of 1.77, far above Sampdoria’s 0.77.

Patric continued to impress with his good form, putting the Biancocelesti ahead of the 41st minute, netting a close range header following a Luis Alberto cross.

Luis Alberto classily doubled Lazio’s lead in the 59th minute after a beautiful piece of control in the Sampdoria six yard box, ending a lovely attacking move. Confusingly for the Spaniard, he was brought off by Maurizio Sarri in the 77th minute, leaving him frustrated on the bench.

Lazio now sit 5th in the Serie A table, three points ahead of Roma, who now must win away to Fiorentina tomorrow evening.
