Referee Massa Missed Sampdoria Sending Off in Comfortable Lazio Win

Referee Davide Massa failed to punish Sampdoria with a red card in Lazio’s confident 2-0 win yesterday.

The Biancocelesti secured the victory after a header from Patric in the first half and a beautiful display of technical skill by Luis Alberto in the second, giving them a much needed three points in the race with intercity rivals Roma for 5th in the Serie A table.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Massa failed to give Sampdoria midfielder Abdelhamid Sabiri a red card after his dangerous challenge on Manuel Lazzari; he carelessly plunged his boot into the Lazio full back’s calf whilst trying to steal the ball, something which could’ve easily saw him sent off.

Despite this mistake, Massa put in a fairly decent and respectable performance at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday, with no other major controversies disrupting the evening. He ended up giving one yellow card to Lazio’s Elseid Hysaj and one to Sampdoria’s Ronaldo Vieira.
