Lotito Wants Sarri to Be the Figurehead of a New Lazio

Claudio Lotito took Maurizio Sarri out for dinner this week to discuss his contract renewal, wanting to confirm the Italian coach’s future.

The Lazio president has been keen to tie down the 63-year-old Italian coach to a longer contract for the majority of this season, with the idea first being mentioned in the run-up to Christmas. Sarri’s current deal expires in 2023 and Lotito wants to push this back by a couple of years.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lotito took Sarri out to dinner to discuss the project and his plans for the future of the club. Also present at the dinner was Marina, the coach’s wife, and Cristina Mezzarona, the Lazio president’s significant other.

It was an important meeting that established the seriousness of Lotito’s plans in Rome; he made it clear that he wants Sarri to the figurehead of the Lazio family and he believes that the Italian coach is the right man to overhaul the team in the Italian capital.

Sarri has asked for a little time, as he wants certain guarantees on the transfer market, but Lotito is confident that he can do enough to secure the renewal.
