Milinkovic-Savic on Champions League Desire & Shining Under Sarri

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was all smiles following his last second equaliser in Lazio’s tough 2-2 draw with Juventus.

The 27-year-old Serbian midfielder managed to find the back of the net in the 96th minute of the clash at the Allianz Stadium last night, securing a point for the Roman club after a wasteful evening in Turin. With Ciro Immobile out through injury, Milinkovic-Savic stepped up and made the difference.

Speaking first to DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Milinkovic-Savic first reacted to the draw with Juventus.

I’m happy with the goal because it helped the team to get a point and mathematically qualify for Europe.

For how we started the season, not at our best, at the end we can be happy to have qualified for Europe.

The Lazio midfielder spoke about if this was his best season so far.

I improved with the coach in some aspects, I scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists, yes I’d say this was my best season.

He touched on what will be needed next season.

We’ll need a few players to aim for the Champions League.

Milinkovic-Savic then discussed the draw with Juventus to Sky Sports Italia.

I’m happy that we won the Europa League place. That was the goal today. Now let’s have a good week, prepare the next game and hopefully win and see a lot of fans at the stadium.

The Serbian midfielder commented on his goals at the start of the season.

My goal is always the Champions League but sometimes you have to be realistic. We often made mistakes, but in recent months we’ve played better and we’ve taken our place in Europe.

Finally, Milinkovic-Savic discussed the tactical shift following the departure of Simone Inzaghi and the arrival of Maurizio Sarri.

We knew it was hard because we started from scratch. I was convinced that Sarri is a great coach. I was confident and I always told the boys that.
