Caputo Tops Lazio’s List of Possible Immobile Backups

Maurizio Sarri is continuing to push Lazio to sign Sampdoria veteran Francesco Caputo this summer.

It’s become clear over the course of this season that the Biancocelesti desperately need to sign a second-choice striker who can provide reliable backup to Ciro Immobile. The departure of Vedat Muriqi in January saw the only other true centre forward leave, putting a lot of pressure on the Italian star.

As reported by Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Sarri believes that Caputo is the right man to provide backup to Immobile. He pushed to sign the Sampdoria veteran in the January transfer window but a deal was impossible due to the fact that he’d already appeared for two clubs this campaign.

The 34-year-old Caputo would only cost around €1.5 million and he’d like a two-year contract, making him a fairly cheap and accessible backup forward. He is contracted to Sampdoria until 2024 and he’s scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 37 Serie A appearances this season.
