Sporting Gijon Keen to Sign Lazio Loanee Jony on Permanent Deal

Jony could stay in Spain beyond this season as Sporting Gijon would like to keep the Lazio loanee.

The 30-year-old Spanish winger re-joined the Spanish second tier side in the January transfer window on loan, and whilst he’s only made a handful of appearances since his arrival, the club have been happy with his work.

As reported by El Comercio (via LazioNews24), Sporting Gijon hope that Jony will be able to leave Lazio this summer, possibly on a free transfer a year ahead of his contract expiry, so they can sign him on a permanent deal.

The Spanish side are ready to offer the 30-year-old a four-year contract, allowing them to spread out and amortise the cost of his signing.

Jony signed for Lazio in the summer of 2019 from Malaga in a deal worth around €1.5 million. He failed to impress under Simone Inzaghi and it quickly became clear that there was no space in Maurizio Sarri’s squad for the Spaniard.
