Sarri on the Verge of Signing Lazio Contract Renewal

Maurizio Sarri is only a step away from putting pen to paper on the much-anticipated contract renewal with Lazio.

President Claudio Lotito discussed his desire to give the 63-year-old Italian coach a longer deal months ago at the Christmas dinner, but things quickly fell quiet following a horrific January transfer window, which left Sarri feeling concerned about the seriousness of the project in Rome.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), after months of rumours and talks, Sarri has now found an agreement with Lotito regarding a contract renewal, tying him down to Lazio for the next few years.

The two parties could meet as early as tomorrow to settle the final details and it could be officially announced at some point next week.

The new agreement will see Sarri’s deal extended to 2025, with a salary bump seeing him earn around €4 million net per season plus add-ons. Also included is a double exit strategy for both Lazio and the 63-year-old Italian coach, giving both sides some semblance of security should things go south.

Apollo’s thoughts:

Finally. This story has dragged on for far too long now and it would definitely benefit all parties to tie things up soon, allowing attention to be focused on the upcoming transfer window. Of course, it’s always too early to celebrate with Lazio, so let’s hope an official announcement arrives at some point next week.
