Despite suffering relegation with Genoa, Johan Vasquez could immediately return to Serie A as both Lazio and Fiorentina are keen to pick him up.
The 23-year-old Mexican defender has had a good season in Liguria despite the Rossoblu’s struggles this campaign, standing out as one of the better players in the squad. Johan Vasquez arrived from UNAM Pumas last summer and immediately seemed to adapt to Serie A.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Genoa’s relegation means Johan Vasquez could be sold this summer, returning to his proper level in Serie A. Both Lazio and Fiorentina are particularly keen to secure his signature and they’re now ready to battle it out for the 23-year-old.
The former Pumas man would be a welcome signing for Maurizio Sarri, although it would likely take around €10 million to convince Genoa of a deal.
Vasquez posts incredible defensive stats across the last 365 days, averaging 3.16 tackles per 90 minutes, 2.69 interceptions per 90, 2.13 blocks per 90 and 14.97 pressures per 90.
Apollo’s thoughts:
Lazio need to sign some new defenders this summer and Vasquez seems like a fairly good option, being accessible following Genoa’s relegation and clearly having potential. He is already making international appearances with Mexico and he could be an interesting option alongside Patric or potentially Alessio Romagnoli.
