Patric Agrees to Five-Year Contract Renewal With Lazio

Patric has reached an agreement with Lazio to extend his stay in Rome until 2027.

The 29-year-old Spanish defender has risen to prominence this season under Maurizio Sarri, being one of the most improved players in the squad following the tactical shift that took place last year. At the start of the season there seemed to be little chance that Patric would renew with Lazio, but now things have changed.

As reported by Alfredo Pedulla, Patric has agreed to sign a five-year contract renewal with Lazio, tying him to the club until 2027. The Spaniard will earn €1 million net per season plus add-ons and things are expected to be fully finalised soon, with only the signatures missing now.

Patric was the most accurate passer in Serie A in the 2021-22 season, completing 94.1% of his 1412 attempted passes. Behind him is Inter defender Milan Skriniar, who completed 93.2% of his 2064 passes.

The Spaniard’s tactical flexibility is another core element of his game; he is able to play as both a centre back and full back, and within the 90 minutes he is comfortable switching from a more offensive game-plan to a defensive style and vice versa, making him perfect for Sarri’s system.

Apollo’s thoughts:

This was an obvious move following Patric’s incredible season. He’s proven himself to both Sarri and the fans this campaign, consistently rising to the occasion and looking very comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Yes, his defensive work is still a little rough, but as Lazio prepare for a squad overhaul, keeping a player like Patric is absolutely vital.
