Lazio have emerged as one of the Serie A clubs keen to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan midfielder impressed this season whilst on loan with Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina, but a permanent move never materialised as the Viola continued to push for discounts on both the deal and the player’s wages. Whilst he will return to Arsenal this summer, it’s clear that he’ll be put on the market once again.
As reported by La Nazione (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio are one of the clubs keen to pick up Torreira this summer; the Roman club were closely following the midfielder last year before he reached an agreement with Fiorentina.
A year on, Lazio still believe that the 26-year-old would be a good fit for Maurizio Sarri’s squad, but things won’t be easy as Juventus are also reportedly interested.
The Gunners wanted around €15 million from Fiorentina this summer for Torreira, a price that Lazio may not be willing to pay until they’ve sold a top player, like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic or Luis Alberto.
Apollo’s Thoughts
Honestly, this seems like it would be an incredible deal for Lazio. Torreira was a core part of Italiano’s fluid Fiorentina squad this season and he seems like he’d be a great fit for Sarri’s three-man midfield, comfortable with the ball at his feet and ready to contribute to attacks.
The Uruguayan midfielder is obviously happy in Serie A and he may appreciate the idea of challenging for a top four finish with the Biancocelesti, although a starting spot at Juventus may be incredibly hard to turn down, should one be offered.
