How Lazio Risk Losing Out on Romagnoli to Valencia

Lazio risk losing out on free agent Alessio Romagnoli as Gennaro Gattuso’s Valencia set their sights on him.

The Biancocelesti have been desperate to secure the 27-year-old Italian centre back’s signature for a number of months now, but talks have been progressing incredibly slowly lately, with around €500,000 separating offer from request. As their talks with Romagnoli stall, Lazio now could be overtaken by Valencia.

As reported by La Repubblica (via LazioNews24), Gattuso’s Valencia are incredibly keen to pick up Romagnoli this summer and they’re ready to offer him a contract worth around €2.8 million net per season plus add-ons.

Lazio are still optimistic that they can close out a deal, but it relies on finding a new club for Francesco Acerbi. Without the former Sassuolo man’s sale, it’s hard for the Roman club to make a definitive approach.

Due to the fact that the Biancocelesti are having minor difficulties with the liquidity index, it’s not hard to imagine the Spanish side getting the upper hand in the talks to sign Romagnoli, who played under Gattuso at Milan between 2017 and 2019.
