Lazio Explain Azzurri Withdrawal of Zaccagni & Lazzari

Lazio have offered an explanation behind why both Mattia Zaccagni and Manuel Lazzari withdrew from the Azzurri training camp in Coverciano yesterday.

The Biancocelesti pair unexpectedly pulled out of the training retreat yesterday, confusing coach Roberto Mancini, who now cannot count on the pair for tonight’s Nations League clash against Germany. Both Zaccagni and Lazzari were core parts of Maurizio Sarri’s squad in Rome this season, playing regularly.

As announced by Lazio, both Zaccagni and Lazzari were forced to pull out of the training camp following the “exacerbation of pre-existing chronic problems”. The pair have returned to Rome and will undergo a round of medical checks at the Paideia clinic soon.

Their withdrawal sparked some controversy, with a La Repubblica article suggesting that the duo may have withdrawn in order to start their summer holidays early.

Zaccagni was at the centre of a controversy involving Azzurri teammate Nicolo Zaniolo, and the Roma man pulled out of the training camp earlier this week, another strange moment of this retreat.
