Record appearance holder Stefan Radu has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Lazio, extending his stay to at least 15 years.

The Romanian defender joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2008 from FC Dinamo in a deal worth around €4.75 million, and he went on to become a key figure in the history of the Roman club, becoming their all-time record appearance holder. Radu has made 424 appearances across all competitions for Lazio, 23 more than second place Giuseppe Favalli.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Radu has agreed to sign a one-year deal with Lazio, extending his stay until June 2023. A full agreement between the parties has been reached and things will be fully finalised at the end of this month in order to work around the liquidity index issue.

The 35-year-old Radu struggled for consistent playing time this season, only making 12 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 681 minutes. He’ll remain an experienced back-up option next season, able to play as both a centre back and left back in Maurizio Sarri’s system.
