Chelsea Outcast Kepa Calls Sarri in Bid to Join Lazio

Chelsea shot stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has contacted Maurizio Sarri in a bid to secure a move to Lazio this summer.

The 27-year-old Spanish goalkeeper has not had an easy time in England recently, falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Edouard Mendy in 2020. He only made four Premier League appearances this season and a departure from Chelsea seems likely this summer.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Kepa called Sarri and asked him for a move to Lazio. Chelsea are willing to release him on loan and the Spaniard would be willing to lower his salary in order to join the Roman club.

The Biancocelesti could try to exploit the situation a little and put pressure on Atalanta to lower their demands for Marco Carnesecchi, or they could do a u-turn and push for Kepa instead.

Kepa and Sarri famously came to blows in the Carabao Cup final on 24th February 2019, when the Spanish goalkeeper refused to be substituted off in the dying minutes of extra time.

The incident infuriated the coach, who almost stormed out of the stadium before finally calming down a little. Kepa later explained that the pair resolved the issue quickly and professionally, despite the Chelsea fans’ belief that it caused a major rift.
