Arsenal Outcast & Lazio Target Torreira Talks Future Plans

Arsenal owned midfielder Lucas Torreira discussed his plans for the future amid links to both Fiorentina and Lazio.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan midfielder had a good season on loan with the Viola this campaign, netting five goals and providing two assists in 31 Serie A appearances under Vincenzo Italiano. Fiorentina were keen to permanently sign Torreira from Arsenal, but their quest for a discount led to a breakdown in talks.

Speaking after Uruguay’s 5-0 friendly win over Panama (via LazioNews24) last night, Torreira discussed his future plans and what he’s looking for now.

My idea is to stay with Fiorentina, but if that doesn’t happen I’ll look for a team where I can have consistency.

Right now I don’t really know anything, I want to rest, take some time off because it’s been a busy season. In due time I’ll sit down with my agent and we’ll look for the best options.

Contracted to Arsenal until 2023, Torreira never really convinced in North London following his arrival from Sampdoria in July 2018. He cost around €28.65m, but never lived up to that price tag and failed to convince coach Mikel Arteta.

The Uruguayan midfielder made 89 appearances in total for Arsenal across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists, struggling to show his best in the Premier League.
