Adam Marusic recently scored a vital goal for Montenegro against Bosnia and his role at Lazio could be a little different next season.
The 29-year-old Montenegrin full back proved his quality to Maurizio Sarri this campaign, earning a regular spot in the starting lineup due to his reliability and tactical flexibility. Marusic’s strong work saw him earn a contract renewal, extending his ties to the club until 2024.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Montenegro coach Miodrag Radulovic is using Marusic as a progressive wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 system or even as a winger in a 4-3-3. Sarri, who has always been a fan of the Montenegrin’s flexibility, is watching his play closely and waiting for him to return to Italy.
Marusic could be deployed in a more progressive role next season and could even be adapted to an emergency winger if needed. This idea will likely be tested in Auronzo di Cadore this summer at Lazio’s pre-season training camp.
