Why Lazio Are Interested in Inter Shot Stopper Radu

Lazio are thinking about picking up Ionut Radu, who is leaving Inter, as they look for a new backup goalkeeper.

The Biancocelesti’s first choice option to replace Thomas Strakosha this summer is Atalanta talent Marco Carnesecchi, and the club are still keen to sign him even though he’ll be sidelined for around 3-4 months due to a shoulder injury. Because of this, a reliable second choice option will be needed to shore things up at the back until he returns to full fitness.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio are unconvinced about the idea of seeing a 39-year-old Reina be their main option for the first few months of the season, and so they’re looking for a new backup goalkeeper.

The top option for the time being seems to be the 25-year-old Radu, who is leaving Inter after an eight-year association with the club. The Romanian joined the Nerazzurri as a teenager in 2014 but spent most of his time attached to the team out on loan.

Radu was given a chance with the Inter first team this season after Samir Handanovic suffered a minor injury, but his fatal mistake against Bologna allowed intercity rivals Milan to take momentum in the Serie A title race.
