Giuseppe Porcellini, a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology in Bologna who operated on the injured Marco Carnesecchi, confirmed talks with Lazio.
The 21-year-old Italian shot-stopper impressed last season on loan with Cremonese and he’s the Biancocelesti’s first-choice option to replace the departing Thomas Strakosha. Unfortunately for him and Lazio, he suffered a shoulder injury in an Italy Under-21 training session recently, forcing surgical intervention.
Gianluigi Longari explained to The Italian Football Podcast that Carnesecchi is an extremely concrete option for Lazio and that a full agreement is close to being reached.
Speaking to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Porcellini discussed Carnesecchi’s surgery and the contacts from Lazio, underlining his good impression of the Roman club.
President Lotito phoned me immediately and I explained the whole situation with the boy. He surprised me with how well prepared he was, really good. He also asked me if Marco would save in the same way, knowing that he’s been injured in the past.
I replied that it is obvious that an athlete who knows he has a healthy shoulder will save more easily, but his future is not at risk. I also spoke with Dr. Rodia – the Lazio doctor is already on the ball.
I have seen a lot of interest and love for this very good boy, above all mature. He showed this when I told him the pros and cons of the surgery he underwent.
The 21-year-old Carnesecchi is contracted to Atalanta until 2026 and is expected to cost around €10 million. After his recovery, he is set to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for many years to come, seeming perfect for Maurizio Sarri’s system.
