Chelsea Emerge in Race for Arsenal & Newcastle Linked Milinkovic-Savic

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare met with representatives from Chelsea yesterday to discuss their interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Biancocelesti sporting director travelled to London to discuss a number of deals with the Blues; Lazio are following a number of Chelsea players, from Kepa Arrizabalaga to Emerson Palmieri and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, so a face-to-face meeting was needed to discuss details.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Chelsea made some serious enquiries about Milinkovic-Savic, considering a move for the Lazio star. No concrete offer was made, but things could develop over the coming weeks.

At the moment, Lazio’s demands have scared off possible buyers, with the club wanting around €60 million for the 27-year-old Serbian midfielder. The only clubs willing to match this demand are Arsenal and Newcastle United, but the player has turned down both clubs as he’s only willing to leave Rome for Champions League football.

Milinkovic-Savic’s contract expires in 2024 and he recently turned down a one-year renewal, forcing the Biancocelesti to reflect on his future. Staying this summer would make coach Maurizio Sarri happy but it would also increase the risk of the Serbian leaving on a free transfer in two years time, something the club are desperate to avoid.
