From Emerson to Parisi: Who Will Be the New Lazio Left-Back?

Maurizio Sarri wants Lazio to pick up a new left-back this summer but the search has currently been put on hold.

The 63-year-old Italian coach has a number of ideas in mind as he looks to provide Adam Marusic with some reliable coverage on the left side of the defence. Sarri lost faith in Elseid Hysaj this season after consistently poor showings, so a new left-back is a must this summer.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Sarri’s dream choice is Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, but this deal would be fairly hard to pull off. The Lazio coach is also a fan of Empoli prospect Fabiano Parisi but the club are not willing to make a move yet.

Lazio’s strategy appears to be confirming Marusic as the first choice option and then picking up a low-cost rotation option. One idea is Santos’ Pedrinho, an exciting but fairly unknown 19-year-old, and Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan. For the time being, the Roman club are focusing on more pressing matters, like a new midfielder and forward.

The 29-year-old Marusic proved himself to be a strong and tactically intelligent option this season under Sarri, earning himself a regular starting spot and a new contract in Rome.
