Lotito on Lazio’s Summer Transfer Window: ‘We Are Building the Team’

Lazio president Claudio Lotito underlined the team’s future plans and confirmed that work is underway to overhaul Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

The Biancocelesti know that a squad overhaul is needed this summer to provide the 63-year-old Italian coach with the right players to be competitive within his attacking, possession based system. Brazilian midfielder Marcos Antonio is the first arrival of the summer and more are sure to follow as the next few months progress.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ‘Uniforms&Casques’ exhibition (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lotito first discussed his 19 years in charge of Lazio and what he’s most proud of.

I have been president for 19 years. What makes me most proud? Definitely the certainty that this is now a stable club, which no longer has any problems and is projected to move forward into the future on the basis of growth.

The past serves as experience to avoid committing situations that may not be appreciated. The future will be focused on competition and being able to rise to an important role in European football.

He touched on the goals for next season with Sarri.

To do better and better. We’ll see, you don’t make predictions. Results are achieved, not announced.

Finally, Lotito spoke about the summer transfer window and the mindset heading into it.

You don’t gift presents, you organise a team that is more competitive than the one from last year. We had an adjustment period with a completely different technical guidance and tactical set-up.

We are building the team according to the new technical set-up and with the possibility of being able to compete on equal terms with everyone.

Lazio are linked with a number of players as the summer window rapidly approaches, with some of the hottest including soon-to-be free agent Alessio Romagnoli and Atalanta prospect Marco Carnesecchi.
