Milan Linked Acerbi May Skip Lazio’s Pre-Season Retreat

Rumours from Italy suggest that Francesco Acerbi may not turn up for Lazio’s pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore amid links to Milan.

The 34-year-old Italian defender did not have a good season in Rome under Maurizio Sarri, struggling to adapt to the 4-3-3 system before falling out with the fans over a misguided goal celebration. In an interview near the end of the season, Acerbi underlined the difficulty of the campaign and the emotional toll things took.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Acerbi may not show up for the pre-season training retreat in Auronzo di Cadore, despite being summoned for the usual medical tests on 7th July. The 34-year-old has been asking for a move away since the end of the season and Milan have been heavily linked with a transfer.

Sarri would be happy to say goodbye to the former Sassuolo man, ready to embrace Alessio Romagnoli and Nicolo Casale in his first team, and the player himself is keen on the move to Milan.

The Lazio centre back reportedly met with Stefano Pioli in Forte dei Marmi recently, where he expressed his desire to move to Milanello following a difficult season.

Lazio want around €4-5 million for the 34-year-old Italian centre back, but it’s likely that they’ll have to lower their requests a little, despite the fact that his contract expires in 2025.
