From PSG & Man United to Quiet, What Will Happen to Milinkovic-Savic?

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio greets the crowd after the Serie A match between Genoa CFC and SS Lazio at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on April 10, 2022 in Genoa, Italy.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic seemed destined to leave Lazio this summer amid links to PSG and Manchester United, but things have fallen suspiciously quiet recently.

The 27-year-old Serbian midfielder had a wonderful season under Maurizio Sarri in Rome, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in 37 Serie A appearances, proving himself to be one of the top midfielders in Europe. With his contract expiring in 2024, this summer seemed like the perfect time to cash in on Milinkovic-Savic.

As detailed by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), despite the initial interest from PSG and Manchester United, no concrete offers have arrived recently yet for Milinkovic-Savic. Lazio did turn down a €55m offer from the Red Devils and they’ve since turned their attention to other targets like Frenkie de Jong.

The Roman club are still holding on for around €70m but the situation could get a little sticky considering the Serbian midfielder’s 2024 contract expiry. He recently turned down a one-year renewal, so there is a chance that a free transfer could be on the horizon, but for now it seems likely that he’ll remain part of Sarri’s squad for the upcoming campaign.

Lazio still have to generate some funds in order to provide enough resources for their squad overhaul this summer, so now the rumour is that Luis Alberto will be sold instead.
