Official: FC Copenhagen Sign Denis Vavro From Lazio

By Apollo Heyes -

FC Copenhagen have officially signed Denis Vavro from Lazio in a definitive transfer.

The 26-year-old Slovakian centre back is returning for his second spell with the Danish side following a previous two-year stay from 2017 to 2019. Things were not easy in Rome for Vavro, who failed to show his best under both Simone Inzaghi and Maurizio Sarri.

As announced by FC Copenhagen, Vavro has returned to the club on a permanent deal from Lazio, signing a four-year contract.

The Slovakian defender expressed his happiness at the return, underlining his ambitions following a tough spell with Lazio.

It’s been like coming home for me. I have always felt comfortable at the club and I am ready to play a bigger role than when I was here last time.

It has always been the goal for me that I should stay here and settle on a longer contract, so I am glad that this is happening, even though it was not easy.

I am looking forward to the future in Copenhagen, where we will go for both the championship and the cup, and also have the chance to play some big matches in Europe.

Copenhagen coach Jess Thorup was happy to welcome Vavro back to the Danish capital, seeing him as a huge reinforcement for the team.

We need players at an international level who, with both their individual qualities and experience, can create a strong foundation for the team.

Here we see Denis as one of the players who can be a key player for the team. He takes a lot of responsibility defensively and is enterprising when we have the ball, where he is also really good.

Combined with our other defenders, we now have a solid back line with different options in our game.

Denis Vavro initially joined Lazio from Copenhagen in July 2019 in a deal worth around €10.5m. He went on to make 21 appearances across all competitions for the club, struggling to impress both Inzaghi and Sarri. He also had a one-season loan spell with SD Huesca.
