What’s on the Horizon for Lazio Outcast Acerbi?

Francesco Acerbi is expected to arrive at Lazio’s pre-season training camp today, but his future is still far from Rome.

The 34-year-old Italian defender took a little extra time off following his commitments with the Italian national team, and he’s set to arrive at the training retreat in Auronzo di Cadore today. Acerbi handed in a transfer request at the end of the season but so far no concrete offers have arrived.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Maurizio Sarri is not a huge fan of Acerbi and would prefer to play Alessio Romagnoli in his place. The 34-year-old earns €2.5 million net per season and is contracted to the club until 2025, so Lazio will need to work hard to re-home him this summer.

Milan are seemingly the only viable option for the time being, but he’s not the first choice of either Stefano Pioli or Paolo Maldini as Lazio want around €5-6 million.

The teams that are interested in him want a deal to be either incredibly low-cost or free, things that Claudio Lotito aren’t keen to offer. He may be forced to lower his demands, however, as the interested clubs are aware of his contract situation, putting Lazio in a weak negotiating position.
