Sampdoria Explore Move for Lazio Midfielder Escalante

Sampdoria have come forward to express their interest in a move for unneeded Lazio midfielder Gonzalo Escalante.

The Biancocelesti transferred listed the 29-year-old Argentinian midfielder after he returned from his decent loan spell with Alaves in Spain. Escalante joined Lazio on a free transfer in September 2020 but never looked particularly convincing in Rome, and he failed to convince Maurizio Sarri.

As reported by Sky Sports Italia (via LazioNews24), Sampdoria are interested in making a move for Escalante and they’ve approached Lazio to explore a possible move.

No concrete offers have been made yet but that could change as the upcoming Serie A season rapidly approaches.

Since joining Lazio in 2020, Escalante has made 31 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 1022 minutes. He’s provided one assist and is often pointed to as another confusing transfer market move by sporting director Igli Tare.

Escalante is contracted to the Roman club until 2024, so they’ll be hoping for an offer from Sampdoria at some point soon.
