Akpa Akpro Talks Being Left Behind With Acerbi & Search for a New Club

Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro commented on his uncertain situation after Maurizio Sarri didn’t call him up for the Lazio pre-season retreat in Germany.

The 29-year-old Ivorian midfielder was not brought along to the short retreat in Gassau, being left in Rome alongside fellow squad outcast Francesco Acerbi. Both players have been put up on the transfer list and are likely to depart before the summer transfer window ends.

Speaking to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Akpa Akpro discussed his difficult situation in Rome and what he expects to happen in his future after being transfer listed by Lazio.

I’m training here with Acerbi, because all of a sudden they told me I had to stay in Rome. But not because I already had a new team.

I’m waiting for news from my agent, at the moment there’s nothing.

The Ivorian midfielder has been linked with both a possible return to Toulouse as well as a move within Italy, with both Sampdoria and Cremonese interested in picking up the player.

Contracted to Lazio until 2025, Akpa Akpro only made 10 Serie A appearances last season, for a total of 311 minutes. In the second half of the season, he only made two brief cameo appearances, underlining Sarri’s lack of belief in the Ivorian.
