Why Lazio May Release Valencia Linked Hysaj on a Free

Lazio are looking to pick up a new left back this summer and they’re looking to cut Elseid Hysaj out the picture to make space.

The 28-year-old Albanian full back signed for the Biancocelesti on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired with Napoli. Picking up Hysaj made sense following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri last summer, but he underwhelmed in his debut campaign in Rome and the adapted Adam Marusic often started in his place.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), selling Hysaj is key for giving Lazio some breathing room as they look to pick up a new left back this summer, but finding a buyer is proving difficult.

Valencia are interested in the 28-year-old, but don’t have the funds necessary to complete a deal with Lazio. As such, the Roman club could look to agree a contract termination, releasing him on a free transfer.

This wouldn’t see Lazio make a capital loss and could give the necessary resources to complete a loan deal for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.
