Maximiano Could Lose Lazio Starting Spot After Disastrous Debut

Maurizio Sarri could drop Luis Maximiano from the Lazio starting lineup in favour of Ivan Provedel following the Portuguese goalkeeper’s disastrous debut against Bologna.

The 23-year-old shot stopper had an afternoon to forget at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday, getting sent off only six minutes into his competitive debut after clearly handling the ball outside his penalty area. The error immediately put Lazio on the back foot and forced Sarri to take off Toma Basic in order to bring on Provedel, who then had a solid afternoon between the sticks.

As highlighted by LazioNews24, Maximiano’s clumsy mistake could prove to be costly as Provedel immediately rose to the task. The former Spezia shot stopper impressed and made a few good stops, looking confident and comfortable in a Lazio shirt.

With the Portuguese goalkeeper sidelined for a game or two, Provedel could further prove his qualities and make the starting spot his own.

Whilst it’s far too early to completely lose faith in Maximiano, it was an incredibly disappointing start and he’ll need to regain his confidence before he can show his best in Rome.
