Sergej Milinkovic-Savic reflected on the lessons learnt by Lazio after their draw with Sampdoria and what he expects from tonight’s clash with Napoli.
The Biancocelesti were in the driving seat in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris earlier this week, putting on a decent showing against the Blucerchiati, but they failed to close out the match, allowing the home side to claw back a late equaliser.
It was a frustrating result for Lazio, and something they’ll need to work on if they want to keep up in the race for Champions League qualification.
Speaking in the match programme (via LazioNews24), Milinkovic-Savic first discussed the lessons learnt from the Sampdoria draw.
What does it teach us? That we have to be more decisive in order to score more and close out games earlier without waiting until the last minute.
He looked ahead to this evening’s game against Napoli.
It’ll be a difficult match, they’re a very strong team with a lot of quality. Last year we lost at the end, this time we’ll try to bring home the win.
The Serbian midfielder spoke about his goal contributions this season and how they differ from last campaign.
This season I started with assists while last year I scored straight away in the first league game. The important thing is always to win, not who you score against.
He underlined the excitement of this Serie A season.
It’ll be a good season, difficult, with many teams within a few points like last year, when until the end you didn’t know who would win the Scudetto and who would be relegated.
Finally, Milinkovic-Savic discussed the importance of the fans support.
I’ve always stressed the importance of having a big crowd to support us. It’s nice to enter the pitch in front of so many fans for the warm-up and the kick-off.
Against Bologna, after going down a man, they gave us great help and in the end we brought home the three points.
Napoli have started this season in a similar fashion to Lazio, picking up two wins and two draws from their opening four fixtures.
