Ivan Provedel has immediately impressed following his arrival at Lazio this summer, proving himself ready to become the starting goalkeeper in Rome.
The 28-year-old Italian shot stopper did not start the season opener against Bologna, but he was given the chance to show his skills only six minutes into the game after Luis Maximiano picked up a red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area. Since then, Provedel has played every available minute for Lazio and he’s certainly risen to the task.
Provedel has already shown his quick reflexes, fast diving and powerful shot stopping ability, making an average of 3.27 saves per 90 minutes across his first five appearances for Lazio. He also has a post-shot expected goals minus goals allowed of +2.1, highlighting his over-performance between the sticks.
Even in the 2-1 defeat to Napoli this weekend, Provedel was clearly Lazio’s best performer, making five saves and keeping the scoreline respectable. It seems almost impossible for Luis Maximiano to take back the starting spot now, with the former Spezia man ready to become a regular in Rome.
