Lazio vs Hellas Verona: Recent History
Last season, the Biancocelesti suffered an incredibly painful 4-1 defeat to the Gialloblu in their first meeting of the season in Veneto, and their final day clash ended 3-3 in Rome. Sarri will be hoping for a more positive showing this year.
With Lazio hoping to fight for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification this season, they cannot really afford to drop points at home to Hellas Verona again this season. The Gialloblu do appear slightly weaker following the summer transfer market, notably losing Giovanni Simeone and Nicolo Casale, but options like Ivan Ilic and Kevin Lasagna could still ultimately prove dangerous.
Lazio vs Hellas Verona: Team News
The Roman club have shown a lot of positive signs after their first five Serie A matches, with wins over Bologna and Inter showing the character of Maurizio Sarri’s side. Despite suffering a frustrating 2-1 loss to Napoli last weekend, the team bounced back in their European opener against Feyenoord, flexing their muscles on the international stage.
Hellas Verona’s campaign has kicked off even more inconsistently. The Gialloblu have only picked up one win so far, against a struggling Sampdoria, and draws with Empoli and Bologna have done little to build confidence.
The only absence for Maurizio Sarri’s side this weekend is Danilo Cataldi, who is out with a one-match suspension after his rage towards the officials in last week’s 2-1 loss to Napoli.
Things are equally calm in the Hellas Verona camp, with only Davide Faraoni in doubt due to an ankle issue. He could still appear off the bench in the second half, should he not start.
Expected Starting Lineups
As usual, Sarri has a few doubts regarding his starting 11 – Alessio Romagnoli is likely to start over Nicolo Casale, Toma Basic could have the edge over Luis Alberto and Adam Marusic seems all but certain to start ahead of Elseid Hysaj.
Gabriele Cioffi’s considerations include the battle between Kevin Lasagna and Simone Verdi, Fabio Depaoli or Faraoni and one of either Federico Ceccherini or Koray Gunter.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic; Milinkovic-Savic, Vecino, Basic; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.
Hellas Verona (3-5-2): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Hien, Ceccherini; Faraoni, Lazovic, Veloso, Ilic, Doig; Lasagna, Henry.
