Romagnoli Already a Key Leader in Sarri’s Lazio Squad

Alessio Romagnoli has quickly settled in Rome, becoming a vital leader in Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio squad.

The 27-year-old Italian defender signed for the Biancocelesti on a free transfer in July, finally joining the club he’s supported since he was a boy. Romagnoli has played a key role in all of Lazio’s games so far this season, starting all six games across the league and Europa League.

As highlighted by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Romagnoli has impressed Sarri by quickly becoming the leader of the Lazio defence. The 27-year-old has been reading the games well, organising his backline and putting in consistently strong performances.

Sarri will start Romagnoli again tomorrow in the Biancocelesti’s next game against Hellas Verona, although he’ll likely be rested for next week’s Europa League clash with Midtjylland, giving space to Mario Gila or Nicolo Casale.

Injuries may have derailed the end of the Italian centre back’s time with Milan, but they’ve certainly not proved problematic in Rome so far.
